"…and this is my partner, Ovaltine Jenkins."

USA is very unrecognized for it’s original programming. It’s hardly the go to channel when you’re flipping down the list in your head, trying to name off all the shows that you like by channel because it’s just easier that way, for some alphabetical then chronological by original date of airing, then weekday and time slot, then dewey decimal systematized list that you have on a special key chain zip drive of all the movies, shows, musicals and albums you like. Wha’? *blinks* Oh come on: don’t act like you don’t do that shit too. Psshaw.

They have a couple of excellent shows like Monk, which everyone knows and loves, Burn Notice, which most have never heard of before, all of the new Law & Order: Criminal Intents, and what has become  one of my personal favorites, Psych.

I admit that I was unwilling to give Gus and Shawn [played by Dule Hill and James Roday, respectively] their shot when the show debuted. Seemed to me like a Monk knockoff,  what with the quirky crime fighter and all, and I wasn’t having it. But when the Season 1 marathon ran just before Season 2 premiered,  I figured I’d give it a shot since my DVR had a whopping 35 out of 80 hours free. I’m so very glad I did.

Shawn is a crime consultant with the Santa Barbara police department. He has incredible analytical and observational abilities that he uses to convince those around him that he’s a psychic. Gus is his reluctant partner, and life long best friend who’s also a pharmaceuticals sales representative. The show follows them along on their kooky adventures solving both private crimes and those where they assist the police, one of whom, Detective Lassiter, played by Timothy Odmundson of Judging Amy [another favorite of mine] ‘fame’, cannot stand to see them coming.

The script is clever, the cast is extremely likable, the jokes are actually funny and the plot lines, though predictable, are always entertaining. I can easily pin down what makes this show a winner: Shawn & Gus. Their duo dynamics make for a wildly fun and energetic 42 minutes that I’m always looking forward to.

I thought maybe you all would be interested in this hidden gem of a show. I saw that last season was picked up as filler for NBC, which I believe enabled it to gain some more fans, but there aren’t nearly enough of us as it deserves. I’m glad that it’s not on a large national network, because with last fall’s Journeyman fiasco  [yes I'm still reeling and still pissed, they canceled the best show to have debuted in recent years for lack of ratings which the fucking network didn't do one fucking thing to help them improve, being as it was too concerned with pumping up it's fucktardly craptastic show Bionic Woman] I don’t think we’d still be getting new snippets of these guys.

If you have any extra space in your TiVo, or nothing to do/watch on Fridays @ 10pm [oh don't act like most of y'all are doing much: you're parents just like I am!] check it out. They have full episodes on Hulu.com & usanetwork.com too. I think you’ll like it.

Tomorrow it’ll be back to your regularly scheduled blogging. I just had to get this out. My television/movie/celebpop/music blog will be up and running soon I hope. I just haven’t named it yet. As a matter of fact, I have a poll I’d like you all to take regarding that:

[polldaddy poll="833417"]
Thank you, and GOOD NIGHT ST LOUIS!!!

I’m so glad you wrote this. I don’t really care for MONK…please don’t crucify me. But I really like Dule Hille. I’m definitely scoping out Psych now and watching it!!!

Monk’s not for everyone so I totally get it. :)And Dule & James are quite cute and funny, so I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

USA Network has been making kick ass original programming since the 90s. Anyone remember Pacific Blue?

They had these bicycle cops in southern california who could miraculously catch all the bad guys without the use of motor vehicles. Are you trying to get away in a porche? Excuse me while I chase you down in a fucking HUFFY.

Hell yeah I remember Pacific Blue! Baywatch on bicycles. :)

(BTW I edited your comment, just to hyperlink the Wiki article to the show title because the link you left wasn’t working when I cut and pasted.)

OMG! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Monk, Psych, and Burn Notice. I agree that USA gets overlooked all the time. We also really like My Boys on TBS. I like the shorter seasons that happen more often through the year.

I have to admit that I’ve never seen My Boys. I think the only time I watch TBS is Seinfeld or Family Guy reruns. I’ll have to check it out though. :D

I LOVED JOURNEYMAN! (SO EFFING PISSED) The adorable actor (and he’s Scottish!) is going to be on Grey’s Anatomy this season. Still, I would rather have had them keep Journeyman. It rocked.

I also adore Psyche. Gus and Shawn should win an Emmy for Cutest Couple.

I love them, the banter is hilarious and the nicknames Shawn gives Gus make me pee a little. You picked my favorite for your title.

I also dig the cartoon they have of them as kids.

Hilarious.

P.S. Also? Check out “Dead Like Me”. Only had two seasons on Showtime and it is a pity because it was one of my favorite things on TV, like, EVER.

LOVED Dead Like Me!! They play it on Sci Fi sometimes now. I cannot believe it only lasted two seasons – it was really good!

Have you seen Pushing Daisies? It’s about dead people too, but super cute. :)

I saw Psych when it was on NBC earlier this summer. I liked it and recorded some of the shows then, but I just have too much on my DVR to add another show!

I’m still in mourning over Journey. Oh the pain I feel over that one.

I’m so glad they still have Eureka on SciFi. LOVE that show…

Although I have a huge hole in my soul over The 4400 too.

Sigh.

Oh and let’s not go into Lucky Louie and Rome on HBO.

Belgium+basic cable=none of these shows available to me other than on expensive DVDs.
In fact, the Hulu won’t even work cause it only works in the US.
Bitches.
Not you…Hulu and everyone else un-Euro friendly.

“Journeyman” was good, but I am obsessed with Kevin Mckidd and have been since “Rome”. “Monk” is also a favorite, and I like “Psych”, too!
So, obviously, we could hang out and watch some tv together.
Except all summer long I’ve been very anti- television.
Eh. Fall’s right around the corner!

hulu is giving me a very rude message about being outside the u.s. i don’t think that language is necessary.

i think this would be my kind of thing, if i watched tv, which i stopped doing (excEPT the daily show…i NEVER will give that up) last year.
