‘Cause I love Y’all
Before having children I spent a shit load of money on myself. Like…a shit load. Clothes and sneakers and rosaries and ghetto gold jewelry [like herringbone necklaces with the raised nameplates]. Then, I had them and realized it was more fun for me to put together tiny outfits and buy toys and trikes and fancy crayons that you don’t have to sharpen for them.
The problem is that I live in a one horse town and besides WalMarx there aren’t many places to shop. Maria no likey WalMarx, if you couldn’t tell by the way I change the name. So I do my shopping online. And most recently I’ve discovered Good for the Kids.
It’s a small boutique, owned and operated by a mom of two. Just the type of business we like to support. The kind of business I want actually - I used to have a dream of having an online kid’s store but that’s another blog: ‘Maria’s long ass list of shit she wanted to do but never did‘. Anyway…
Selection is great, service is great, shipping is fast. And it accepts paypal which may not be important to you but is a biggie for me. I like Paypal. Paypal is fucking awesome - don’t front.
A couple of weeks ago I bought the Melissa & Doug Magnetic Responsibility Chart for my girls from there and it has changed my life. My kids have been cleaning up after themselves since they were old enough to ask for their diapers to be changed, but this makes it even easier. Just the promise of a little ‘good job’ smiley face is enough to get them do it quickly and efficiently with no complaining. I put up a little magnet that says ‘Don’t Use Bad Language’ and Goobie has gone from proclaiming “Mommy I in my ASS!” when stuffing her hands down her pamper to “Mommy I in my BUM BUM!!” [This stems from me saying 'Goobie get outta your ass!' in an attempt to curb her habit]
Anyway, enough about me and mine. I’m teaming up with Good for the Kids and offering you a $50 gift certificate to their store. You can buy whatever you want. You can even buy my girls some of the Nickelodeon Beanie Babies [Goobie likes Pablo from The Backyardigans & The Bella likes Gary from Spongebob Squarepants]. Good deal, eh? Even if you don’t have kids, or your kids are older, you can get a quick shower or birthday gift. This is fucking awesome, I’m telling you.
So - here’s how to enter for your $50 gift certificate:
1. You have to leave a comment here on this blog entry. Not any other entries - this one. Only one comment per day, but the contest is running until Saturday, August 23rd, 11:59pm EST and you can leave a comment every day. So you have up to 7 chances to enter.
2. Your comment must include the name of an item from the ‘What’s New?‘ category. If your comment is chosen as the winner, and a ‘What’s New?‘ item is not included in the comment, I’ll pick another winner.
3. That’s it. Just that.
The contest is open to anyone, anywhere in the world. None of the US & Canada only crap. I’ll choose the winner via Random.org and announce them in exactly one week. Get to it now.

HELL YEAH, Maria!! I am in!! I was just telling my husband that I want to start celebrating our daughter’s half birthdays instead of her actual bday b/c she was born just a couple of weeks after Christmas. She’s 1 1/2 and I want to give her new shit NOW. She has grown out of all of the toys she got for her bday and Christmas last year. ANYWAY…I LOVE Good For the Kids!! My daughter was actually playing with one of those M & D Classic Stack and Sort Boards at a friend’s house the other day. She brought me one of the circle pieces and said “Sa-cul Mommy!” Yeah, she’s a smarty! ;)

Ooh, I love the Wow Wow Wubsy Beanies! If I had them I could use them as a prop when I run around the house singing the songs from them ,annoying the hell out of my kids! haha! “If you lose your spoon on the way to the moon, just ask for a little help!”

Ok…so, I’m a moron and I didn’t read all the rules before I made my first post. In my 1st comment I mentioned an item from the site, but it wasn’t a “What’s New” item. I noticed my f-up when I read your post on CFP. Sigh! Anywho…I like the Wonder Pets Beanie Babies set because that show cracks me up. My sister and I are thinking of dressing our 3 kids like the WPs for Halloween this year. Now I want to give them each the matching doll to go w/ their costume! Shut up. You know it would be cute as hell. :)
August 17th, 2008 at 11:35 am
Oh my god, Maria, that site is awesome! I am hereby mentioning the Melissa and Doug Happy Hippo Pull Toy. I think it would, indeed, make me happy. I love Melissa and Doug. I lost a puzzle piece, and on a whim, called their 1-800 number to see if it was possible to get a replacement piece. A REAL LIVE PERSON answered! And she was nice! Completely floored me.

So I will save them for my 6 yr old when she goes Clubbin down in Providence with her cousins…or to some Guatemalan party, they are always celebrating something-we went to parties, baptisms, birthdays you name it every weekend when we lived in RI.
