For your consideration.

in Mothering, blogging

Two potential announcements. I’m looking for your input, if you are so inclined to offer it.

J. and I split in December 2004, when The Bella was 12 1/2 months old. During our separation we conceived and I bore Ari. We didn’t move back in together until May 2007. So yes, for all intents and purposes other than financial, I was a single mother. Which may be why he complained pretty often that I didn’t let him really participate in the raising of the girls. And why I’m dreading co-parenting. I’m selfish and they are mine.

During that time I kept a journal. I thought it’d be a good idea to document each month of their lives, of our lives together in order for them to look back on it when they were older and see that regardless of what happened, they had had a happy life. I also wanted them to be able to appreciate what I went through ensuring that they had that happy life, and look back from wherever I am then, to where I was now. I kept them written on paper, in private MySpace entries, in Microsoft Word, wherever. Sadly, I’ve lost most of them.

Now, that I am once again a single mother, I feel like I should start it back up. Actually I feel that I should have never stopped, but that’s beside the point. I am considering making this a part of my blog, to share with you as well as them. I’m not sure if I will yet.

I am telling you this so that it will be clear that I’m totally biting off of Dooce. I remember seeing her month three newsletter to Leta, and the funny little picture of Leta nibbling on a finger and thinking it was a great idea, and that I’d do it. So I did. And I might again.

Also, I’m considering starting a sub-blog. Not for pay, no, and really not for any purpose other than I want to have a place to talk about movies/television/music, but I’d rather not implement that here. If you’re a MySpace friend you’ve seen my weekly movie reviews and bulletins featuring every Heroes teaser I can find. And you were there to witness my mental breakdown when Journeyman was canceled. *sigh* The sub-blog may just be a connected Tumblr or something like that, or entirely new blog altogether. We shall see.

Speaking of Heroes! Remember this necklace?

ncklc For your consideration.

It broke. :( I caught the chain on a part of a carseat, pulled back and broke the pendant clasp. So I replaced it. And instead of going with the more muted version as I did when I purchased that one – I went all The Haitian & Peter Petrelli on your ass with the authentic replica:

heroes For your consideration.

I’m in love. When I put it on, I looked in the mirror and said “You’re off the fuckin’ chain!

*For full effect, please refer to my favorite line in one of my very favorite films, Hot Fuzz, and picture me saying it just like Danny Butterman and then cocking a shotgun.*

Hot Fuzz is one of the funniest films ever made. Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright  as a team can do no wrong. You should see Shaun of the Dead and catch a few episodes of the British sitcom Spaced. You’ll love it, unless you’re loopy. Shit, do see how easily I get carried away when I mention one friggin’ television show? It’s ridiculous! And that’s why this addiction needs it’s own blog!

Anyway, I don’t know if I’ll do either of those things. But if I do, just thought I’d run it by you first, and see if you had anything to say about it. Also, Dance, Dance [IV] will be postponed until next week because I’m in SAN FRANCISCO baby!! Not that you all are on like pins and needles waiting for that shit but still…a girl can pretend.

Gone to BlogHer 08

Postscript: I have two of my favorite bloggers guest posting to cover me while I’m @ BlogHer for tomorrow & Saturday. You’ll just have to drop by to see who they are.

I think that the journals are a great idea. I love Dooce’s monthly letter, but I think something even more frequent and less…structured is good. And I think you should plan to publish it – even if only for the girls. There’s some great sites out there to do that – bind blogs into a book.

Hot Fuzz was a brilliant movie. Seriously.

I think journaling is a great idea, and if I didn’t have so many dang kids, I probably would do it!
How did I not know you LOVED Heroes?? That show is awesome, can’t wait to hear what you have to say about it.
And I too was sad when Journeyman was cancelled. It reminded me a lot of my favorite book, The Time Traveller’s Wife.

I loved Shaun of the Dead, especially the part when Shaun’s mom is on the phone and he says, “We’re coming to get you, Barbara.” In the original Night of the Living Dead, Barbara’s brother says to her in the cemetary, “They’re coming to get you, Barbara.”

I’ll have to rent Hot Fuzz, obviously.

Toodles~

The journals are a great idea. It will be interesting to read and it serves the dual purpose of the kids being able to go back and read htem as they are older.

And you know damn well you can’t postpone Dance, Dance. The nerve of you. ;)

Have fun at BlogHer. Sorry I won’t be able to come up and have fun with you, sucks more for me because you might be one of my most favorite people in the world right now.

Hell to the yeah, you should journal about (and for) the girls! Of course, IMHO, I think there should be something there “just for them,” you know? As much as I want to continue stalking you, there are some things private and special that only they deserve. So if it’s not too much, in addition to the rest (well, before the rest), keep something just for them too.

And I would be honored to be your special guest blogger. LOL!

i like the journal thing.

years before i started blogging i emailed a good friend religiuosly about my kids’ development, and i compiled all those emails into a document that i really should update.

i figured that when i got old and decrepit (ie, next tuesday) it would be great to look back and see how they progressed.

have mega fun at that conference, chickie. rock the house of blogher!

I used to keep journals when I was in college… wished I had never stopped. You girls will probably get a kick out of reading yours when they are much older. Go for it.
Hope you have a great time at BlogHer and kick ass during your presentation.

People have been writing letters to their kids since the dawn of time. Kind of hard to copy something that’s been around that long, y’know?

I’m still TOTALLY pissed I forgot to send you a photo of me for BlogHer. I suck.
