Some Miscellanea for yo’ ass.

November 25th, 2008 Posted in Miscellaneous, blogging

Hello how are you?

I was interviewed by Anita for BlogTalk radio a couple of days ago. Take a listen and tell me what you think.

I am a new contributing editor for BlogHer.

I had an article published on Work it Mom! on how to prevent blogging overdose last week.

I’ve debuted et cætera, my pop culture blog. Which is off to a slow start, being as it’s harder to write about that stuff than I thought, so I’m planning on doing a bit of podcasting and vlogging to ease it along. If you’re interested in contributing or anything, let me know.

I’ve debuted Truth, my review blog and my most recent one is my first as a BlogHer reviewer, for JC Penney’s. There’s also info on a $300 giveaway you can enter, if you’re interested.

(You can get to those blogs anytime via the links in my header.)

I decided to start a food blog, called The AntiFoodie. It’s not up yet, and won’t be for a while, but when it is, expect some tasty recipes and tips and lots of recommendations and tricks that I find useful in my own kitchen. And lots of food like this:

A Simple Dinner.

That one was for a 3 year old. So not as much steak or onions as I would have piled on for an adult. But a sample. (:

I’m making cupcakes tomorrow, and for the first time I’ll be making chocolate buttercream frosting (I just got my order of Green & Black’s baking cocoa in the mail). Someone remind me to not forget sprinkles at the store. I bought some Wilton decorating tips, so I’ll try my hand at piping. Although I’m sure I’ll suck, as long as it tastes good. *shrugs*

I’ve come to realize that I cannot stand the word ’snark’. That shit is annoying. Have I ever used it? If so, smack me. WTF does it mean, anyway? Sassy? Sarcastic? Having of attitude? Bitchy? WTF? Don’t ever call me snarky, ok? Thank you.

Remember those old posts I wrote where I shared some of the corny MySpace messages I get? I’ve started a blog just for them. It’s not live yet either, but it will be soon. It’s called Idiot Fingers.

I finally saw Zack & Miri Make a Porno this weekend. It’s official: I am in love with Seth Rogan. He is just…there has never been anyone so innately funny to me. I adore him.

I’ve started reading the Twilight books yesterday. So far, yeah…I’m not seeing the appeal. They are written horribly, and Bella is pretty pretentious, eh? Don’t stone me to death – I’m allowed to have an opinion, plus I’m only one chapter in. I got distracted. And this is coming from someone that will kick you in the balls (hypothetical or no) for dissing Harry Potter. So I can get it – I just don’t. Yet.

Also, if you blogged about Twilight recently, I didn’t read it. Unless you’re Ali. Or Britt. Or Kimmy. I feel like this shit is taking over my life, and I’m not even a fan. I saw a 60 something year old woman driving a Lexus with a vanity plate that read ‘Twilight’. I hope for her sake that it was just a coincidence. Because that’s sad. Right? RIGHT?  So yeah, I didn’t read any of your teenage girl SQUEEEEEEEEEEEING. Sorry ’bout that. You’re all cornballs.

That’s it. I’m done. Hope you’re well.

Pretty soon, you'll have as many business cards as Fletch. Don't worry, you'll get used to it. Except none of mine are blogging related so not nearly as cool or fun. That's why you rule. Can I say smarmy? Maria is smarmy. Sounds good to me. Who cares what the hell it means.

  2. Jenee says:

I'm almost done with the second book of Twilight.. and saw the movie tonight.. still not seeing what all the fuss is about. Eh. Oh yeah, don't forget the sprinkles.

Oh, and snarky.. ha. I've been called snarky. Oh wait we both were.

  3. BusyDad says:

oh shiz. Smarmy is a word. And it means sleazy. But probably not in a good way like we use it. Dammit. How about Swarthy. Like a pirate. Yeah, way better.

Look at you all over the internets with your awesomeness! I am so excited about etc! I just read most of your old posts, except I am not caught up on Heroes or True Blood. I can't wait to keep reading it. I'm really happy for you that you have all this cool stuff going on, and I always enjoy your writing. Here's to 2009 being an awesome year! Also, keep reading Twilight. You might get sucked in soon. If will be excited to read your take on it either way!

  5. Wow, you sure have your fingers in a lot of pies.

Take that however you want. ;-)

  6. flutter says:

I think I love you. Congrats on the BlogHer gig

  7. Congrats on the BlogHer gig. I don't know how you pack all of this in, I have enough of a headache from the three I'm on. Geez. I am CLEARLY some sort of slacker. I bow to your bloggy goodness.

  8. Lea says:

Oy Vey!!! The girl has read all the twilight books, went to the premiere here at MIDNIGHT… Oh, yeah and it was a school night (but according to her, I never let her do anything!). That was on Thursday. She then went to see it again, on Friday, Saturday and had I let her, she'd have gone on Sunday too.

I've read (maybe from you?) that there is an underlying theme, that it is Mormon based about abstaining from having sex. Since I don't like Vampire books or movies, I can't give say if it is or isn't and unlike you, I won't even pick them up to read LOL Kudos to you for making an effort to see what all the fuss is about!

  9. Kelley says:

    Busy biatch.

Soon I can say, I knew her when…

    <3

  10. tracey says:

Holy shit. Busy much? Trying to make the rest of us look bad, aren't you??

    You're such a snarky brat.

  11. ali says:

only one chapter in? just wait…the writing gets WAY worse. wait until Meyer confuses the word 'murmured' for 'said' and uses it every time any character speaks. yeah, that's fun…

but still, sigh, am totally addicted.

  12. Hockeyman says:

Well said, Harry Potter is the shit. It is unique and original. If I want a vampire story I'll go with Bram Stoker. But whatever, to each their own. It's popular now so expect more silly license plates like that.

How was Zack and Miri? I LOVE Kevin Smith movies and want to see this one bad.

  13. I am exhausted just reading about all your endeavors!

Congratulation girl – knock 'em dead!

  14. Miss Britt says:

So what you're saying is I have to come HERE to make sure you read my squeeeeeing?

    *sigh*

    OK. If you insist.

    SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE

    >:-)

  15. Summer says:

Wow, you are a busy woman!

  16. Honeybell says:

So. You're saying that from now on when I bitch and whine about my bloated reader, I can name YOU. Specifically.

Also, how in hell do you get your kids to eat onions?

  17. Tiffany says:

I won't comment on Harry Potter because well um I never read them. Yea I said I would but I didn't. And keep reading because if you hate Twilight I just don't know what I'll do with myself. LOL

  18. lynette says:

I'm dying to see Zack & Miri make a porno. I already am in love with Seth Rogan, so let's arm wrestle for him. LOL.

  19. OHmommy says:

Whoa, girlfriend. When do you have the time? Congrats on all your latest and greatest, I am so happy for you. Now off to read the review blog. Have a feeling it will be wonderful. ;)

  20. April says:

Damn girl, you've been busy! Are these all the links you shared with me? I guess I shoud've read them, huh?
I have to disagree with you on snarky, though. LOVE that word. It is a combination of bitchy, sassy, and sarcastic, but still in a class all its own. But I'll respect your opinion and not use it on you.
Twilight? Yeah, I think I heard of it. It's not the rage in our house though.

  21. Kim says:

Seriously, congrats on all your new gigs . Your radio interview was GREAT.. you rocked it out of course.. And I have come here to laugh with you on your comment on Miss's vlog post. I am not sure if you saw my twit about it.. but I was on the floor … you were soo the first.. lol

And my Edward hears Kim necklace is in the mail.

  22. Kaila says:

Where do you find all that time?
I am excited to explore them all though.

S: how do you get a 3 year old to eat that? Mine is 6 and still wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Picky little shit.

  23. Cindy says:

Congrats on your new gig – awesome opportunities!
That sandwhich looks delicious. I LOVE beef. And the bread looks like its toasted perfectly.
Snark drives me crazy too. Like its overused or something. I don't know. Just seems obnoxious.
Haven't gotten into the Twilight series but I've heard so much good stuff. I just haven't gotten interested enough to actually pursue it.
Can't wait to check out th links!!!

  24. There are only 24 hours in a day, right? Where do you find the time?

I loved the interview and also how you dropped the F bomb at the end…oops. Had to skip the True Blood thingy until I watch the last one on OnDemand. Also, you had me stiffling giggles (I'm at work) reading the MySpace messages.

    Take care~

  25. Gypsy says:

You are one busy blogging lady!

I've read up to Book 3 in the Twilight series and was completely unimpressed. Yet I keep reading. Go figure.

  26. MomBabe says:

Way to go Maria!!! I'm excited about etc… I LOVE POP CULTURE!!! :) and I love to cook, so I'll be trying some of your recipes yum yum

  31. Kate says:

Do you have any idea how happy you have made me?!?!
I LOVE READING YOU, MARIA!! This kicks ass!

  32. Wow! You are a busy blogger!! I can barely keep up with mine and you're all over this stuff! LOVE IT!

  33. Oh! And, you are going to BlogHer?! Yes!!

  34. Jo Beaufoix says:

Wow, busy. And I started Twilight this week too. I think it’s because I have a horny thing about vampires. I don’t mind it but I agree, she is a little pretentious. I mean, she coooks for her dad at 17? I can’t even cook at 33. I bet she never gets zits either. Sighhhh.

Jo Beaufoix´s last blog post..And so it begins

  35. Elaine says:

lemme know if I can contribute to your pop culture blog. I know i have been slacking on the celeb shit talking lately – I’m just too lazy to write it all down, but let me tell you the celeb commentary in my head goes on 24/7.

  37. Karen MEG says:

Geez, you’ve been busy, girl!!! Congrats on the new gigs… nothing less than expected of course. There are likely even bigger things on the horizon for you.

I haven’t cracked open the Twilight door either myself… although I’m tempted to ask my 15 year old niece whether I can borrow her book. Should I?

And you make cupcakes so beautifully too.
