“Having a Nikon doesn’t make you a photographer. It makes you a Nikon owner.”

How true is that quote up there? So true. I see all the time on the internet people calling themselves photographers and I’m like ‘Bitch you ain’t no photographer!’ and I pronounce photographer photo-graffer (Like…photo and then graph like graph paper and then er) for dramatic effect. It’s like every mofo with a Tumblr or a Flickr, or just a dslr (or polaroid!) is tryna charge others for their ill composed, overly vignetted bullshit photos. Puhleeze.
But, I guess it’s like writing? Or anything else artistic? You are what you are in your heart. If you are an artist, that’s what you are, whether anyone’s bought any of your work or not. If you’re a writer, you’re a writer, whether you’ve ever made a dime from it or not. If taking photos is something you’re passionate about, no one has the right to tell you that you aren’t what you feel. Not even me. And I mean, shit – my word is law and shit.
I’m no photographer. I’m just a chick with a camera, a friend that hooks her up with photoshop/lightroom 2 presets, and way too much time on her hands right now. But sometimes I get lucky. And when I have some extra money lying around this fall, after my Chicago trip and the newly required and desired home entertainment system for my bedroom, I’ll be buying one of those really heavy highbrow Nikons. Just ’cause.
