Here’s the text that was in the image:
“This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the Public Power Monopoly regulated by the US Department of Energy. I then took a shower in the clean water provided by the Municipal Water Utility. After that, I turned on the TV to one of the FCC regulated channels to see what the National Weather Service of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration determined the weather was going to be like using satellites designed, built, and launched by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. I watched this while eating my breakfast of US Department of Agriculture inspected food and taking the drugs which have been determined as safe by the Food and Drug Administration.
At the appropriate time as regulated by the US congress and kept accurate by the National Institute of Atandards and Technology and the US Naval Observatory, I get into my National Highway Traffic Safety Administration approved automobile and set out to work on the roads build by the local, state, and federal Departments of Transportation, possibly stopping to purchase additional fuel of a quality level determined by the Environmental Protection Agency, using legal tender issed by the Federal Reserve Bank. On the way out the door I deposit any mail I have to be sent out via the US Postal Service and drop the kids off at the public school.
After spending another day not being maimed or killed at work thanks to the workplace regulations imposed by the Department of Labor and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, enjoying another two meals which again do not kill me because of the USDA, I drive my NHTSA car back home on the DOT roads, to my house which has not burned down in my absence because of the state and local building codes and fire marshal’s inspection, and which has not been plundered of all it’s valuables thanks to the local Police Department.
I then log on to the internet which was developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration and post on freerepublic.com and Fox News forums about how SOCIALISM in medicine is BAD because the government can’t do anything right.”

Note: This is not me defending or debating the current healthcare proposal. This is me pointing out that people who keep using ’socialism’ as a trigger word in their arguments against said healthcare proposal are idiots.
Interesting! I like it, and it makes a good point. The government CAN do some things right, I’m actually amazed we haven’t had more terrorist attacks in the US. I think in addition to the above examples the government has kept us pretty safe despite the fact that so many groups would love to see us dead.
I’m sure the government CAN find a healthcare plan that works for those who choose to utilize it. The one currently on the table is not, in my opinion, ready to be passed.
bahaha! This is definitely something I never thought about before!
I think the inherent problem with the whole socialism argument is that the people arguing that really don’t even know what socialism is. If they did, perhaps they’d find a new argument. But since they’re not interested in a logical, coherent conversation, let alone a disagreement without name-calling and scare-tactics, watching them get owned in the face with things like this is plenty entertaining.
I’m Canadian and let me tell you I love my “socialist” health care system. Last year when I had my daughter I left the hospital after 3 days with a healthy baby girl who was born and then cared for afterwards in a private room. When I left I was only worrying that I had no fucking clue what I was in for rather than how the fuck I was going to pay my medical bills! I’ve never once had to debate going to the doctors because I can’t afford it and I’ve never had to go without groceries so I could pay for my health insurance. I’ve never waited longer than 45 mins in an emergency room I’ve never had to wait for months to see a specialist and let me tell you the doctors I know are doing quite fine financially. So if this is what socialism looks like these days then I’m okay with that
That is FANTASTIC.
Careful….we might send our death squads to choose our kills…. :P
This ’socialism’ tag that gets bandied about is nothing more than cock rot.
If being able to ensure that people aren’t denied basic fucking healthcare because of how much they have in their pockets is socialism then bring it on.
I love it! I was just spouting off about this same topic. How can people get their knickers in a twist about getting government out of health care when #1 it already IS up to its elbows in health care, and #2 it’s already in up to its elbows in everything else.
I am honestly convinced that for many of these opponents, race is still the issue. They still see President Obama as a foreigner, a terrorist and worst of all a black man, therefore anything he wants to do is awful and will bring about the downfall of the United States. I’d almost have more respect if they’d just come out and say they don’t like him or his policies because he’s black. Almost. Well, no not really.
HA, love it! Although, what I keep fixating on is that I’ve never seen a /b/tard post something so serious before. Well played.
All I know is that the way our medical system works now ISN’T working. It sucks. It’s impossible and it’s bankrupting Americans. We HAVE to change. And soon.
Oh man I love that. I will definitely hasve to lead the idiots to this site. The whole socialism argument is beyond annoying. Merrittt said it best. I would also love to hear from other countries where healthcare is socialized.
You always hear someone say a relative in Canada has to wait a year to use an MRI machine. Shoot when I was trying to find a pediatrician for my son I called it took about 5 months to find him one. That was an HMo. Now I’m with a PPO and by the time I finish paying the deductible I will have to wait over a year if I want to be able to afford the bill I’ll receive to use that MRI machine.
Freaking hilarious – and awesome!
That is pure genius!
I’ve seen that before, and while I am all for providing and offering health care to everyone, the vast difference between those above mentioned Gov’t run ‘basics’ and Gov’t run health care is that we write a check for those electric, water and cable(or non cable), they aren’t provided unless you can pay for them.
Wait….do I sound like a tool? Lemme try this again:
There are many of things the Gov’t do well and with great fluidity that we most times take for granted, though most of the gov’t regulated plans are ones we pay for, sometimes fluctuating to great amounts. I agree that one of the best systems is the post office, because where else can you leave money or anything in a box just in front of your home and know that it is 100% protected?! But it would be foolish to think that the Gov’t first run at something huge like health care will go as smoothly.
Well, sister, this is close to my heart because I have immediate family members who work like slaves, and have no insurance available to them. they pay taxes in our country, are upstanding citizens, and they can’t go see a doctor
I think like Canada and France, we can figure out a way to make sure that OUR fellow American’s health is taken care of.
I’m actually a fiscal conservative and a social liberal (example – i am all for STOPPING illegal immigration, a conservative platform, but i support a woman’s right to choose). we need to make better financial decisions in our country. I surely don’t find providing healthcare system for everyone socialism. That’s the VERY right wing media’s (the illuminati, and don’t get me started) way of causing a panic in this country so they won’t lose their precious millions (which they won’t anyways). we need to take care of our fellow humans.
Brilliant.
I love when old people are like “We don’t want socialized medicine. Oh hell no!”
Fine. Hand over your Medicare card, bitches, and return your Social Security benefits while you’re at it.
Both are socialized systems and yet, curiously, no senior citizen I know would dare give THOSE up.
Why would they give up something they have paid for their entire working life. Even with that I have seen senior citizens comtemplating whether they can buy medicine or food for the month. But illegal immigrants can come into our country and get treated and provided medicine.
How fair is that for someone that has worked and paid taxes their entire life. And you want to say “Hand over your Medicare card, bitches, and return your Social Security benefits while you’re at it.” You need to get a fucking clue.
I 100% agree with your argument, but the one real flaw here is that the Federal Reserve is, very unfortunately, not an arm of the government.
That’s the way you’d think it would work, but actually a bunch of super-powerful bankers very literally own all of our money, and they loan it to the government, making millions in interest every second. So we all owe interest on our own tax money before the government even has a chance to waste it. Frowny face.
I wish I’d have thought of that post. Brilliant! You didn’t even mention all of the things that the dept. of weights and measures makes sure everything in industry is correct or how the EPA has cleaned the smog a lot in LA and other major cities. Not to mention how when the EPA was not financed under Reagan and W. Bush, pollution skyrocketed under unchecked big business and don’t even let me start on the FTC who didn’t watch Wall Street and let those assholes take us all to the cleaners.
